Rochester cemetery is a cemetery like no other, nor has it ever been. The cemetery consists of 13.43 acres, burials on both the north and south side of Cemetery road, and is also a native prairie. Owned and maintained continuously by the Rochester township trustees since 1868. This is NOT your typical cemetery, nor has it ever been. For those who visit for the first time, any thoughts and knowledge of how a "normal" cemetery is maintained might want to be left in the car. I promise, Rochester cemetery is not like any "normal" cemetery. Rows are not straight and neat, families maintain their own family plots and the rest is left to grow. It is mowed two times a year, usually in the spring and then again in the fall, after the first killing frost. This is a practice that has been in place from the very beginning and is continued today. Over 900 known burials, oldest stone is that of Rebecca Green who died 25 Sept 1838
