Established by the Archdiocese of Mobile on December 18, 1848. It was formerly known as Stone Street Cemetery and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, under that name, on July 3, 1991, as a part of the Historic Roman Catholic Properties in Mobile Multiple Property Submission (MPS). Prior to 2018, the 150-acre Catholic Cemetery of Mobile was owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Mobile. Under Catholic Cemeteries, Inc., the cemetery remains active and burials take place regularly, joining the approximately 18,000 burials.
